What is hydrodemolition?

Hydrodemolition is a concrete removal technique that uses high-pressure water to remove both deteriorated and/or sound concrete. The process provides an excellent bonding surface for repair and new coating applications. Unlike jackhammers, hydrodemolition does not produce vibrations throughout the structure and because of that, it does not cause micro fracturing. Some other benefits of hydrodemolition are that it creates no dust pollution and the water used during the process can be collected, treated and reused or discharged. Above you can see an example on the left of jackhammering and on the right an example (At the same site) of hydrodemolition, note the better condition of the rebar when using water as well as the actual surface itself. Above is an example of scarification; a process achieved by removing older or damaged concrete to prepare the surface for the addition of new concrete By using high-pressure water. By using water to scarify your concrete you help keep silica exposure to a minimum. Contact us to learn more about why using water might be better for your next project!
